Marvin A. Wayne MD, FACEP, FAAEM, FAHA

Dr. Marvin A. Wayne is an emergency medicine physician in Bellingham, Washington, and holds a position as an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Washington. He is affiliated with PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center. He has served as the Medical Program Director for Whatcom County EMS for 50 years, retiring at the end of 2024. His career began with a medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School and included a period as a surgeon in the Vietnam War, where he earned a Bronze Star.

Dr. Wayne is recognized for his contributions to the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), including pioneering prehospital care, implementing advanced life support protocols, introducing new medical technologies like AEDs, and improving cardiac arrest outcomes. He has mentored many EMS professionals and physicians, leaving a lasting impact on the field through his commitment to education and training. He has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the American College of Emergency Physicians Award for "Outstanding Contribution to EMS" and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Washington Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Dr. Wayne has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. He remains an active figure in the EMS community, even after his retirement from the Medical Director role. His areas of expertise include cardiac arrest, trauma, emergency medical services, and pediatric trauma. His research interests include targeted temperature management and cardiac arrest strategies.
