Mr Marty Smith specialises in surgery of the liver, bile ducts and pancreas, and advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. After completing a degree in Genetics and Microbiology at the University of Melbourne (BSc.). Mr Smith went on to study Medicine at the Flinders University of South Australia (BMBS). Mr Smith then trained in general surgery at the Alfred hospital in Melbourne completing his fellowship in January 2004. He then undertook an Upper GI and Hepatobiliary fellowship at the Western Hospital in Melbourne before travelling overseas for further training.
In the UK a he completed an Upper GI (Oesophagogastric) fellowship at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge then a Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) Surgical fellowship at the Royal London Hospital. He then spent time working with the Liver transplant unit at Kings College hospital in London before returning to Australia.
