Martina trained in the Czech Republic and has been a consultant at Heart of England NHS Trust in Birmingham since 2011, having previously worked in Cheltenham. Her main areas of interest are obstetric anaesthesia, upper g-i and bariatric surgery, and upper limb orthopaedic surgery.Martina has the ESRA Diploma and has been practising ultrasound-assisted epidural placement since 2009, having learned the technique with Dr Rafael Blanco in London.

She went on to present a case series demonstrating the use of ultrasound to predict the depth of the epidural space during labour at the ESRA Annual Congress in Dresden in 2011.She believes the technique is a useful adjunct to all anaesthetists practising neuraxial blockade, with the potential to improve accuracy in difficult cases.Martina has been running a workshop on the Comfortably Numb course since 2011.
