Martin Stockler is Oncology Co-director at the CTC, and Professor of Cancer Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology, Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney.After internal medicine training at the Prince of Wales and Prince Henry Hospitals, and medical oncology training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital all in Sydney, he spent 3 years in Canada doing a clinical research fellowship at the Princess Margaret Hospital and a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto.

His research focuses on improving quality of life, survival, prognostication, and doctor-patient communication for those affected by cancer, particularly those arising from genitourinary, breast, gynaecologic, and lung primaries. His clinical focus is genitourinary cancer.

“The first protocol I wrote was for a randomised trial incorporating quality of life assessment in routine clinical practice - alas, this trial never happened. My first successful protocol was for a small (tiny), placebo-controlled, crossover trial of paracetamol (acetaminophen) for people with advanced cancer and troublesome pain despite a strong opioid regimen
