Martin Pilhofer PhD

Martin Pilhofer was born in Amberg, Germany. He studied Biology (Microbiology/Biochemistry/Genetics) at the University of Bayreuth and the Technical University Munich. After completing his PhD thesis with Karl-Heinz Schleifer at the Technical University Munich and postdoctoral training with Grant Jensen at the California Institute of Technology, he joined ETH Zürich as an Assistant Professor in February 2014. The Pilhofer Lab studies macromolecular machines mediating bacterial cell-cell interactions by applying the key-technique cryoET in an interdisciplinary approach. Among a number of research and equipment grants, Martin was awarded a Starting Grant from the European Research Council.
