Martin Merkel MD

Dr. Martin Merkel is a professor at the Asklepios Campus Hamburg of the medical faculty of Semmelweis University. Clinically, he is a senior physician specializing in diabetes, endocrinology, Metabolism and gastroenterology at the 1st Medical Department of the Asklepios Klinik St. Georg active in Hamburg.

Prof. Merkel heads an outpatient clinic with a focus on rare metabolic diseases in adulthood, lipid metabolic disorders, prevention and endocrinology. This authorization outpatient clinic at the Asklepios Klinik St. Georg is one of around five established centers for maximum clinical care for adults with rare metabolic diseases in Germany. Furthermore, Prof. Merkel coordinates the Interdisciplinary Thyroid Center St. Georg and is one of the clinical leaders of a cross-location project to structure and optimize the care of patients with diabetes in the hospital.
