Martin Korte the goal of our group is to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms linking the functional changes to the structural modifications occurring during learning and memory processes and also to processes of forgetting. To this aim we use both in vitro and in vivo approaches to analyze the function as well as the morphology of neurons of the hippocampus. In addition we ask what role infections and the associated inflammatory reactions play for the progression of neurodegenerative diseases.
