Dr. Martin Koestenberger after graduating from Medical School at the University of Graz, Austria. Martin Koestenberger started his Internship and Residency in Pediatrics with Professor Wilhelm Mueller in Graz in 2001. His clinical career was focused on Blood Coagulation and Pediatric Cardiology and was accompanied by his first scientific experimental work in neonatal blood coagulation and anti-thrombotic drugs, followed by a scholarship for the best experimental publication of the year 2002 from the Austrian/German Society of Pediatrics. In June 2006 he was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics for his studies in new anti-thrombotic drugs in children. After he completed his Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology with Professor Albrecht Beitzke at the Pediatric Cardiology Center of the Medical University of Graz, Austria, he became a faculty member at the Department of Pediatric Cardiology. He had a study visit at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. He is currently working as an Interim head at the Medical University of Graz.

His clinical work in the Pediatric Cardiology Center led to the establishment of several normative echocardiographic values of the RV (size and function parameters). With these internationally valid normative pediatric RV size and function values, his group actually investigates the value of these parameters in children with pulmonary hypertension. He is involved in the development of international recommendations for diagnostic care of children with PH. He still shares close scientific connections with collaborators in Baltimore. In August 2012 he became the Subhead of the Department of Pediatric Cardiology and focused on the treatment of children with pulmonary hypertension.
