Martin Gibson MD, PhD, MB ChB, FRCP

Martin is Professor of Diabetes and Metabolic Medicine at the University of Manchester, Director of the NIHR Clinical Research Network for Greater Manchester, Research and Informatics Director for the Greater Manchester Academic Health Sciences Network and Chief Executive of NorthWest EHealth. His clinical work specialising in diabetes, vascular disease and lipid disorders is based at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust where he was formerly R&D Director of both the acute and primary care Trusts.

Martin is an active clinical trialist and has had a long-term interest in the use of electronic clinical information systems to improve healthcare and facilitate research. Examples include the development of CareCall for diabetes management and diabetes prevention programmes, FARSITE (a tool to support clinical trial feasibility and recruitment) and systems to support the GSK sponsored Salford Lung Study. Nationally Martin works with the NIHR CRN industry team to further improve NIHR network performance and engagement with the life sciences industries.
