Martijn Van Der Eijk studied biomedical sciences focusing on human movement sciences and health policy & management from 1999 to 2005. From 2005 to 2009 he was employed as a project manager at the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport and assisted in the implementation of the Dutch hospital reimbursement system (DBC). From 2009 to 2015 he worked on his Ph.D. thesis called 'Patient-centered care in Parkinson's disease'. He presented his research at international congresses around the world. During his Ph.D. project, he was assigned as a lecturer at the Hogeschool Arnhem Nijmegen. In 2013 patients inspired him to start medical school. Since January 2021 he works as a general practitioner.
