Martha R. Crowther, PhD, MPH, is an associate professor of psychology and the director of the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Alabama (UA). Trained as a clinical psychologist, she also has an MPH focused on chronic disease epidemiology. She is a faculty scholar in the UA Center for Mental Health and Aging, an investigator in the Institute for Rural Health Research, a scientist in the UAB Center for Aging, and an associate research scientist in the UAB Center for Health Resource Development Promotion. Crowther has extensive clinical and research experience in the field of caregiving, in particular, the assessment of caregiving-related stressors and outcomes in diverse populations.

She also has experience in the area of mental health and aging, health disparities in older adults and African-Americans, and the relation between religion, spirituality and health in older adults. Additionally, Crowther has broad expertise in behavioral health, family and community-based research, community-based clinical research recruitment and retention strategies, and health-promotion interventions in African American and rural communities.
