Marshall Horwitz, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified physician and scientist at UW Medicine’s Genetic Medicine Clinic, associate dean of UW Medicine, and a UW professor of Pathology, Medical Genetics, and Genome Sciences, and Medicine. Dr. Horwitz’s work, in the clinic and in the lab, is aimed at explaining the genetic origins of disease to develop personalized approaches to cancer prevention and treatment.

Dr. Horwitz directs the University of Washington School of Medicine Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) for concurrent M.D./Ph.D. students. He is the Cancer Genetics Section Editor of the Public Library of Science journal PLOS Genetics and former chair of the NIH Genetics of Health and Disease study section. Among his honors, Dr. Horwitz is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, received from the President at the White House in 2002, as well as the 2007 NIH Director’s Pioneer Award.
