Marshall Albert Lichtman MD

Marshall A. Lichtman received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University and an M.D. degree from the University of Buffalo School of Medicine in 1960. Dr. Lichtman was a resident in medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center and Strong Memorial Hospital from 1960-to 1963. After two years in the Public Health Service (1963-1965), he returned to Rochester to be Chief Resident in Medicine (1965-1966). Thereafter, he was awarded a Special Postdoctoral Research Fellowship from the National Institutes of Health from 1967 to 1969 to conduct studies on the biochemistry and physiology of blood cells and their abnormalities in leukemia.

Dr. Lichtman was named a Scholar of the Leukemia Society of America in 1969. In 1968 he was appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine and in 1970, Assistant Professor of Biophysics. He was appointed Professor of Medicine and of Biophysics in 1974. In 1975 he was named Chief of the Hematology Unit. From 1979 to 1980, he was Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research, from 1980 to 1988, he was Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research, and from 1988 to 1989, he was Academic Dean, in addition to his role as a teacher, scientist, and hematologist.
