Marlene Chakhtoura, MD, MSc (Assistant Summer Program Director, Teacher) is a prospective Instructor of Clinical Medicine (Endocrinology and Metabolism) at the American University of Beirut – Medical Center (AUB-MC). She obtained her medical degree from the Lebanese University in 2008. She subsequently joined AUBMC to complete 3 years of training in Internal Medicine. She then completed 2 years of training in Endocrinology and Metabolism. She was enrolled in the Scholars in Health Research Program (SHARP) in 2013 and received the SHARP Master of Sciences degree in Health Research in November 2015. During her research fellowship, Dr. Chakhtoura focused on osteoporosis and other bone and mineral disorders.

She is the author of 9 papers published in peer review journals and spearheaded the finalization of the executive version of the 2013 Lebanese FRAXBased Osteoporosis Guidelines, their posting on the website, and the physician guide version of these guidelines to the FRAX Lebanon online calculator. She is the lead author of 4 systematic reviews/meta-analyses on vitamin D requirements. She is also the co-investigator on several ongoing research projects including one large multicenter randomized controlled trial of vitamin D replacement in pregnancy. Dr. Chakhtoura has received several awards including a travel award in 2015 to attend the “Endocrine Society Early Career Forum” and the ASBMR 2015 Phoebe Leboy Professional Development Award, and she was recently selected to join the AUB Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
