Markus Seeger leads a research group investigating the engineering and selection of synthetic binders against membrane proteins of pathogenic bacteria. He holds an MSc in Biotechnology (2002) and a PhD in Microbiology (2007) of the ETH Zurich. After a postdoctoral stay at the University of Cambrige (UK), he became Junior Group Leader (2009) and later Assistant Professor (2013) at the University of Zurich. His group recently designed synthetic nanobodies, which are raised in vitro as conformation-specific affinity reagents against membrane proteins and invented NestLink, a novel method to perform unprecedented protein selections in the absence of a physical genotype-phenotype linkage.
