Dr. Markus Ploner a Professor at the Technical University of Munich, Munich, Bavaria, Germany. He investigates how the human brain generates the experience of pain. Methodically, his working group uses electroencephalography and non-invasive brain stimulation and carries out complex time-frequency and connectivity analyzes of brain activity. The aim of the work is to understand the perception of pain in healthy and sick people and thus contribute to optimizing the diagnosis and therapy of chronic pain.

Prof. Ploner studied human medicine at the Universities of Cologne and Vienna and received his doctorate from the University of Cologne. He began his research work on the topic of pain at the University Hospital Düsseldorf, where he completed his specialist training in neurology. As a Feodor Lynen fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, he worked at the University of Oxford in 2007/2008. Since 2007 he has been a research group leader and senior physician at the Neurological Clinic at TUM, and since 2014 he has been a professor of Human Pain Research at TUM.
