Markus Heilig MD, PhD

Markus Heilig was born in Lodz, Poland in 1959. He received his M.D. in 1986 and his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychiatry in 1989, both from Lund University, Sweden. He then trained with prof. George Koob at The Scripps Research Institute 1990-1992. Upon returning to Sweden and completing clinical training in psychiatry, he served at the Karolinska Institute in various clinical and academic leadership capacities until 2004. Since this time, he has served as the NIAAA Clinical Director and chief of NIAAA's Laboratory of Clinical and Translational studies
