Dr. Russo moved to Charlotte in 2006 as Chief of the Division of Hepatology and Medical Director of Liver Transplantation and was promoted to Professor of Medicine. He has served on several national committees for the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Liver Transplantation, American College of Gastroenterology, and the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).

Russo has authored more than 90 articles and 11 book chapters. He was elected as a fellow in the inaugural class of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases –one of only 360 hepatologists worldwide. He is also a Fellow in the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterology Association.

Russo is internationally recognized for his research and care of patients with chronic liver diseases and has been an invited speaker at the national meetings of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Transplantation, United Network for Organ Sharing, and AGA.
