Mark W. Russo MD, MPH

Mark W. Russo, MD, MPH, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist at Atrium Health, specializing in the diagnosis and management of complex liver diseases. His clinical expertise includes conditions such as cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, hepatitis B, autoimmune hepatitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver transplantation.

Dr. Russo earned his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and completed his residency in internal medicine, as well as fellowships in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology, at the University of North Carolina. He is board-certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and transplant hepatology.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Russo serves as Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at Carolinas Medical Center and has held academic appointments, including Associate Professor of Medicine. His research focuses on viral hepatitis, liver transplantation, hepatocellular carcinoma, and drug-induced liver injury, with numerous peer-reviewed publications and contributions to medical literature.

Recognized for his contributions to the field, Dr. Russo is actively involved in advancing hepatology care through both clinical innovation and research, helping improve outcomes for patients with advanced liver disease.
