Dr. Harris completed his medical degree and subsequent residency in emergency medicine at Indiana University in 1983. After completing postgraduate work in hyperbaric medicine, he worked as a staff attending and Director of Baromedicine at Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, Indiana until 2000.

From 2000-2008, Dr. Harris became the Facility Medical Director and Regional Medical Director for several TeamHealth affiliated hospitals in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area. During that time, he also became the TeamHealth’s National Special Projects Manager – where he worked with the Patient Safety Office to create CQI projects to reduce risk and promote patient safety. From 2008-2011, Dr. Harris transitioned to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he became the Senior Vice President of TeamHealth’s Emergency Medicine Division. In this role, he was responsible for patient flow metrics and operational performance for over 400 EM facilities, nationally. It that role, he acquired the skills to perform demand-to-capacity staffing analyses and modeling – working with Dr. Charles Noon at the University of Tennessee and X32 Healthcare. In 2011, he transitioned to the role of Division President for TeamHealth’s West and Northwest divisions – responsible for all operational activities for those divisions.
