William Mark Saltzman PhD

William Mark Saltzman is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Yale University. Dr. Saltzman's research focuses on creating safer and more effective medical and surgical therapies based on tissue engineering and on developing methods for drug delivery.

Dr. Saltzman received his BS with distinction from Iowa State University and his Ph.D. in medical engineering and medical physics from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology at MIT. Prior to his appointment at Yale, he served on the faculties of Johns Hopkins and Cornell Universities.

Dr. Saltzman's research group has fashioned biocompatible polymeric materials for the controlled delivery of drugs, proteins, and genes, and they have created polymer implants to promote the regeneration of diseased and traumatized tissues in the nervous system and to enhance the survival of transplanted cells and tissues.
