Mark J. Hauser, M.D. has been practicing psychiatry for 35 years. In addition to a clinical consultation practice, he is President of On-Site Psychiatric Services, Inc., a physician staffing organization focusing on DoctorOnCall programs at 6 MA hospitals, managing physician recruitment, orientation, scheduling, and quality assurance. Dr. Hauser’s clinical practice serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the staff who care for them.
Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with added qualifications in Forensic Psychiatry, Mark also serves as a Course Director of CME courses in risk management and liability prevention for Harvard Medical School and the Mass. Psychiatric Society. Research interests include confidentiality, consent, patient privacy, defensive medicine, models of service delivery, and the impact of computers and technology in medical and psychiatric care.
He is active in several professional organizations. Mark served as President of the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society, and now serves as Treasurer. He was a Councillor in the American Academy of Psychiatriy and the Law (AAPL). He is the Chairperson of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Caucus of psychiatrists who treat people with Intellectual Disability. He served on the APA Committee on Judicial Action. He is Chairperson of the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health statewide Human Rights Advisory Committee.
Dr. Hauser has a longstanding interest in information technology. He is a frequent presenter at the annual meeting of AAPL on the topic of computers and technology in psychiatry. He served as the MPS representative to a Subcommittee of the Mass. Legislature dealing with medical privacy. He worked on various projects at the Mass. Health Data Consortium (MHDC) and was a member of their Behavioral Health Forum. He was a frequent attendee of the Electronic Media & Behavior Change meeting hosted by BIDMC.
