Mark Rollins MD

Mark D. Rollins, M.D., Ph.D., is an anesthesiologist, physician-scientist, and educator at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He specializes in obstetric anesthesia, anesthesia for fetal surgery, and oxygen physiology, providing advanced anesthetic care for high-risk maternal and fetal patients while advancing innovation in perioperative medicine.

Dr. Rollins' clinical and research interests focus on obstetric anesthesia, fetal interventions, maternal safety, oxygen physiology, and medical education. His scholarly work has contributed to improving anesthesia techniques for fetal surgery, labor analgesia, and maternal-fetal care, with numerous peer-reviewed publications and national consensus statements that have helped shape best practices in the field.

After earning a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, Dr. Rollins received both his M.D. and Ph.D. in Bioengineering through the University of Minnesota and the University of California, Berkeley/San Francisco. He completed residency training in anesthesiology, an NIH research fellowship, and a fellowship in obstetric anesthesiology at the University of California, San Francisco. He is board-certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Rollins is a nationally recognized leader in anesthesiology education and professional service. He has served in leadership roles with the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Anesthesia, contributed to the development of national guidelines for obstetric anesthesia and fetal therapy, and received numerous teaching honors, including the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Educator Award and multiple Teacher of the Year awards in recognition of his outstanding commitment to medical education and mentorship.
