Mark Alber Meshil Aziz MD, FACC, FSCAI

Dr. Mark Alber Meshil Aziz, who has trained with pioneers in cardiovascular disease at premier medical facilities in the country, has joined the Wellmont CVA Heart Institute as an interventional cardiologist and endovascular specialist. Delivering exceptional care to patients at the heart institute’s Kingsport office and Holston Valley Medical Center, Dr. Aziz performs minimally invasive procedures to treat vascular disease. A medical doctor, he also received advanced training to conduct transcatheter aortic valve replacements, a novel procedure for patients who are not appropriate candidates for open-heart surgery.

Dr. Aziz also has a major interest in treating vascular conditions that develop in blood vessels throughout the body. He highlights the less invasive approaches that are now possible for cases such as aortic aneurysms and traumatic aortic injuries as well. Reflecting on his career to date, two cases related to his training stand out. One was a 90-year-old who underwent the valve replacement and was transformed from having trouble breathing in her home to being able to attend her granddaughter’s college graduation. Another was a 17-year-old boy who suffered a traumatic injury to his aorta in his chest that was able to be corrected with a minimally invasive procedure.
