Professor Dr. Marina Mat Baki is a senior consultant Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ORL-HNS) of Hospital Tunku Mukhriz Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HCTM UKM), subspecialized in laryngology. She was awarded Ph.D. in laryngology from the University College London in November 2014. The title of the Ph.D. is “Laryngeal reinnervation: feasibility studies and development of trial outcome measures” which the research was under a big umbrella of vocal fold paralysis. During the Ph.D. program, she obtained a certificate of subspeciality training in laryngology when she worked with distinguished laryngologists and voice surgeons: Professor Martin Birchall; Dr. John Rubin; and Dr. Guri Sandhu, at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital in London, the United Kingdom from July 2010 until May 2014. Her special interest is in laryngotracheal stenosis, laryngeal paralysis, voice disorders, phono surgery, and sleep apnea. She received referrals as well as phone call consultations from all over Malaysia for adult laryngology cases. In HCTM UKM, she works closely with neurologists in providing laryngeal electromyography test services at the neurology lab. She also works closely with endocrine surgeons whereby she co-managed cases of upper airway infiltration by thyroid carcinoma and actively manage iatrogenic acute recurrent laryngeal nerve injury by providing primary intervention in treating this complication. She has been invited to talk on laryngology topics at national as well as international conferences. She has published 67 papers in WOS, Scopus, and indexed journals.
