Marilyn Metcalf, PhD, is the Senior Director of Benefit Risk Evaluation for GSK. Her team leads colleagues in assessing the favorable versus unfavorable effects of GSK’s medicines. Dr Metcalf is a member of GSK’s Global Safety Board and external collaborations including Patient Focused Medicine Development, Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy’s guidance for industry writing team, FasterCures’ Benefit-Risk Boot Camp, and the program committees for DIA’s Benefit-Risk conferences and webinars.

Dr Metcalf earned a PhD in organizational sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Previously she was a project director at Family Health International where she designed and analyzed contraceptive clinical trials and directed an NIH master contract for HIV vaccine research primarily in developing countries. She moved to the former GlaxoWellcome to study the health economics and quality of life effects of HIV therapies. After the GSK merger, she moved to the UK to build GSK’s international Decision Sciences team. Upon returning to the US, she led Centocor’s R&D portfolio management team and directed GSK’s Quantitative Decision Sciences department. She began her current role in 2011.
