Marijan Klarica studied and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb, and from 1985 to 1986, he completed his medical internship and passed the medical professional exam. In 1986-87 served his military service, 1985-88. attended and passed a postgraduate course in Preclinical Experimental Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb and defended his master's thesis entitled "The role of osmotically active substances in the regulation of intracranial pressure". In 1992, he defended his dissertation "The Role of CSF osmolality in the Pathophysiology of intracranial pressure" at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb. In 1985, he was elected as a professional associate at the Institute of Pharmacology. In 1988, he was elected a scientific assistant at the Institute of Pharmacology, and after defending his dissertation in 1992, he was elected a senior assistant at that Institute. From 1991 to 1993, he worked as the Main Medical Staff of the Republic of Croatia (organizing the collection and distribution of medicines and medical materials according to needs).

From 1994 to 1995, he was on postdoctoral training at Synthelabo Recherche in France (Paris). He was an assistant professor at the Department of Pharmacology of the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb from 1997 to 2002. From 2002 to 2007, he was an associate professor at the Department of Pharmacology of the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb. From 2007 to the present, he is a full professor (since 2012 in a permanent position) at the Department of Pharmacology of the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb. From 1998 to 2000, appointed by the dean, he was the director of the Center for Clinical Application of Neuroscience, Zagreb. In 2000, he was elected as the director of the Center for Clinical Application of Neuroscience and held this position until 2009. In 2009, he was elected vice-dean for administration and business at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb. From the academic year 2012/13.

Marijan Klarica is a productive scientist. He published a total of 145 professional and scientific publications: 50 scientific papers, of which 33 papers were published in journals indexed in Current Contents, 8 in the SCI database, and 9 in other journals; 19 abstracts in journals indexed in Current Contents and 76 other congress abstracts. The cited scientific works of Professor Klarica were cited 374 times, the ah-index is 12 (according to WOS, December 2015). Professor Klarica was an associate and leader of scientific projects funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, where it should be noted that he led the scientific program "Cerebrospinal Pathophysiology and Ultrasound" (MZOS, 2007-2014). He was also a collaborator on the HRZZ project, chief researcher of the University of Zagreb's Short-Term Research Support projects and chief researcher of two technology projects (MZOS). He was an invited lecturer at more than 10 international and more than 30 domestic scientific and professional meetings. He is a member of several professional-scientific societies, of which his involvement in the Croatian Society of Pharmacologists and the Croatian Society for Neuroscience should be highlighted.
