Marie W. Schall, MA, Director, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, leads innovation and improvement projects and is a member of the operations team for IHI’s Triple Aim–related activities and programs. She leads the development and application of IHI’s strategy for spread and scale-up of improvements and is Director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation–funded program Spreading Community Accelerators through Learning and Evaluation (SCALE).
Ms. Schall also leads a Disability Competent Care Learning Community for health plans as part of a contract with the Lewin Group through the CMS Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office. She began her career at IHI in 1995 with the development of the Breakthrough Series Collaborative (BTS) method and is past Director and faculty for the IHI BTS College. Prior to joining IHI, Ms. Schall designed and led improvement projects for the New Jersey Quality Improvement Organization and was Director of Research for the Health Research and Educational Trust of New Jersey, a nonprofit affiliate of the New Jersey Hospital Association.
