Marie-Klaire Farrugia completed her training in Paediatric Surgery, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, in 2008. Thereafter she underwent a two-year UK national training fellowship in Paediatric Urology. She trained in leading centers including Great Ormond Street Hospital, Kings College, St George's Hospital, and the Oxford Radcliffe. She has a research interest in fetal and perinatal urinary tract abnormalities, having completed a research MD on fetal bladder outlet obstruction at the University of London, defending her thesis successfully in 2008. She was awarded the American Academy of Pediatrics traveling fellowship to the Boston Children's Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Hospital Baltimore for her research work on the obstructive megaureter and has published the national consensus statement on this condition on behalf of the British Association of Paediatric Urologists. She became a Consultant Paediatric Urologist at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London, in 2011. She is among the first robotic pediatric surgeons in the UK and is skilled in minimally-invasive pediatric urology. She is currently the clinical lead for the North West London Paediatric Surgical Network and an international executive committee member of the Society for Fetal Urology and the American Association of Pediatric Urologists.
