Dr. Mariano Pellicano is an Interventional Cardiologist at the Hospital Cardiology Unit of the IRCCS Galeazzi Hospital - Sant'Ambrogio. He also collaborates, as a clinical cardiologist, with the Smart Clinic-Centro Clinico Fisioterapico Milanese.
In 2008 he graduated in Medicine and Surgery with honors from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and, in 2014, he specialized in Diseases of the Cardiovascular System at the same University.
He then spent a training period (clinical-interventional and research) of almost 6 years in Belgium (September 2013 - January 2020). Here he worked for four years, from 2013, at the Hartcentrum of the OLV Ziekenhuis in Aalst, first as a Clinical & Research fellow in Interventional Cardiology and, subsequently, as an Interventional Cardiology Resident and PhD fellow of the CardiPath program (International PhD Program in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology and Therapeutics). In 2016 he obtained a Master of Science in Diagnostic Cardiac Imaging, again at the Hartcentrum of the OLV Ziekenhuis in Aalst, sponsored by the University of Rome "La Sapienza".
During the Fellowship period, Master of Science and PhD, he carried out research activities related to coronary physiology (FFR/DFR/IMR and angio-derived FFR) and coronary imaging (OCT, IVUS, and 3D-QCA), platelet reactivity in patients with Acute and Chronic Coronary Syndrome, post-myocardial infarction “Ventricular remodeling” and Bioresorbable vascular scaffolds.
In 2017 he was also Visiting Interventional Cardiologist at the Department of Structural Heart Disease and Cardiovascular Congenital/Hereditary Diseases of Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, Denmark. Also in the same year, he worked for a period of 10 months as a Clinical & Research fellow in Interventional Cardiology at the Montevergine Clinic in Mercogliano (AV).
Upon his return to Belgium, at the beginning of 2018, he first worked as an Interventional Cardiology Resident at the Hartcentrum of the OLV Ziekenhuis in Aalst and then, for about a year and a half, as a Staff Member of the Interventional Cardiology Unit of the 'Hôpital Erasme - Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). In January 2019 he finally obtained the title of PhD (Doctor Europaeus) in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology and Therapeutics.
In February 2020 he joined the Staff of the Interventional Cardiology Unit of the Sant'Ambrogio Clinical Institute and, since August 2022, he has been an Interventional Cardiologist at the IRCCS Galeazzi Hospital - Sant'Ambrogio, where he deals with both coronary interventional surgery (basic and complex), with a particular interest in coronary physiology (FFR/DFR/IMR and angio-derived FFR) and coronary imaging (IVUS, OCT), as well as structural interventional cardiology (PFO, TAVI, Mitraclip, Pascal, LAAO).
He is a member of the Italian Society of Cardiology (SIC), the Italian Society of Invasive Cardiology (GISE), and the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI), as well as of the EAPCI Patient Advocacy Committee 2022-2024.
He is the author of over 50 publications in international scientific journals and has participated in numerous national and international courses and congresses in the field of interventional cardiology, also as a speaker.
