Professor Marianne Dieterich studied medicine at the universities of Bochum and Essen, Germany. She is a specialist in the field of neuro-ophthalmology, neuro-otology, balance disorders, and general neurology. Trained under Thomas Brandt in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology at Munich University, she became Chairperson of Neurology and Director of the Department of Neurology of the University of Mainz, Germany, from 2001 to 2008.
Since 2008 she is Head of the Department of Neurology, Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, Germany. She is a fellow of the American Neurological Association and the European Academy of Neurology, a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Art, and a member of the scientific board of the German Federal Medical Council, Berlin.
Marianne's scientific interest covers the different types of vertigo, dizziness, and balance disorders from structural organic to functional with a particular focus on imaging (MRI, PET, EEG) of the visual and vestibular systems.
