Marianne Canonico, biologist and epidemiologist, is a research associate at Inserm. After a PhD thesis in endocrinology, she followed an additional training in epidemiology and statistics. Her research area concerns the role of sex steroid hormones in age-related diseases, especially in women. She has been responsible for different research programs regarding the role of estrogens and progestogens in women's health. She studied the relationship between postmenopausal hormone therapy and lifetime endogenous estrogen exposure with the risk of venous thromboembolism and arterial disease and was involved in several important European and international collaborations. Since 2015, she has extended her research to study hormonal determinants of mortality and neurological diseases, in particular physical functioning and Parkinson’s disease. She has also an important teaching activity and she is the deputy director of the doctoral school for public health of Paris-Saclay Paris Est University.
