Mariangela Cavarelli PhD

Mariangela Cavarelli, PhD, is a biomedical scientist and researcher specializing in immunology, virology, and infectious disease research. She is affiliated with the Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique et aux Énergies Alternatives (CEA) and Université Paris-Saclay, where her work focuses on viral infections, mucosal immunology, immune responses, and mechanisms underlying HIV and SARS-CoV-2 infection and remission.

Dr. Cavarelli has extensive research experience in cellular and molecular biology, including work with human and non-human primate models, primary immune cells, tissue analysis, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and confocal microscopy. Her research has contributed to understanding HIV/SIV transmission through the gastrointestinal tract, intestinal immune responses, macrophage biology, and post-treatment viral control.

She has authored and contributed to numerous scientific publications covering HIV, SARS-CoV-2, mucosal immunology, vaccine research, and emerging infectious diseases. Her recent work includes research into the immunological mechanisms associated with durable post-treatment control of HIV and vaccine responses against SARS-CoV-2 in non-human primate models.

With a PhD background in infectious disease and immunology from Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, Dr. Cavarelli brings a strong translational research perspective to the study of infectious diseases and immune-mediated mechanisms, contributing to efforts aimed at improving prevention, treatment, and long-term control of viral infections.
