Dr. Maria Tretiakova is a Professor of Pathology, Chief of GU service, the Director of GU Pathology fellowship, the Director of Immunohistochemistry Laboratories, and a recipient of the Best Teacher award at the University of Washington, Seattle. Originally from St. Petersburg (Russia), she graduated summa cum laude with MD & PhD degrees from the State Medical Academy, completed AP training, and worked as a faculty member. After relocation to the United States, she worked for several years as the Human Tissue Resource Center Director at the University of Chicago, where she also completed her AP/CP residency combined with genitourinary subspecialty training at Johns Hopkins University, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and MD Anderson Cancer Centers. After joining the faculty at the University of Washington, she became a leading pathologist in the Kidney Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, the Prostate Cancer SPORE program at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and the Canary Foundation (Stanford).

Dr Tretiakova teaches extensively at national and international conferences, serves as a Board Member or Committee Chair of several national and international professional societies, including GUPS, ISUP, and WSSP (former vice-president). As a GU pathology expert with nearly 30 years of diagnostic experience, she is a Deputy Editor-in-Chief for GU Pathology of PathologyOutlines and on the editorial boards of many peer-reviewed scientific journals. She is a prolific researcher supported by numerous grants and maintains a remarkable publication record of over 250 papers and book chapters, including the recent edition of the WHO classification of Urinary and Male Genital Tumors.
