Maria Parkes PhD

Dr. Maria Parkes is a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Bioengineering. She has an MEng in Mechanical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Tribology both from Imperial College. Since completing her Ph.D. in 2014 Maria has worked as a postdoc in the Biomechanics Research Group in Mechanical Engineering. Her work primarily examined the tribological properties of established and novel materials for use as orthopedic implants including hydrogels and ceramics. Maria joined the Bioengineering department in June 2018. In her role as a strategic teaching fellow, Maria undertakes teaching, admissions, and outreach in order to support the work of the Department of Bioengineering.
