Maria Rosa Lidonnici is a staff scientist at the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (SR-TIGET) in Milan, Italy, where she works within the Gene Transfer into Stem Cells Unit. Her research focuses on hematopoietic stem cell biology, gene transfer technologies, and the development of innovative gene therapy strategies for inherited blood and immune disorders.
As part of the internationally recognized SR-TIGET research community, Lidonnici contributes to translational research aimed at advancing lentiviral vector-based gene therapies and stem cell engineering approaches from laboratory discovery to clinical application. SR-TIGET is widely regarded as a global leader in gene and cell therapy research, particularly in the treatment of rare genetic diseases such as beta-thalassemia, immunodeficiencies, and metabolic disorders.
Lidonnici has co-authored numerous scientific publications in the fields of stem cell engineering, hematopoietic stem cell expansion, and gene therapy for hemoglobinopathies. Her work has contributed to improving ex vivo manipulation and genetic correction of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, supporting the development of safer and more effective therapeutic platforms for rare diseases.
