PD Dr. Margarita Todorova studied at the Medical University in Varna, Bulgaria. In 2001, she completed her training as a specialist in ophthalmology at the University Eye Clinic in Varna. In 2004 she moved to the Eye Clinic in Basel, where she initially worked scientifically and from 2006 also clinically as Senior Physician. In 2012 she completed her training as a specialist in Ophthalmic Surgery at the Eye Clinic Basel. She earned her doctorate in 2009 and habilitated in 2017 at the University of Basel. Ms. Todorova's interests and focus include electrophysiology, perimetry, diagnostics, conservative retinology and oximetry. She also acquired a broader knowledge and experience in the field of strabology, neuro-ophthalmology and pediatric ophthalmology, as she spent years in the pediatric neuro-ophthalmology department of the Eye Clinic in Basel a stv. executive function. Between January and June 2018 she was at the Eye Clinic Heuberger, Olten, Head of Continuing Education. She has been working at the Eye Clinic St. Gallen since June 2018.

PD Dr. Todorova is involved in teaching and research. Especially in the field of degenerative and hereditary retinal diseases she developed and published important new insights. Her research was also supported by numerous third-party funds. In Basel, she supervised several doctoral students. Her research group has received several poster and travel awards from EVER (European Association for Vision and Eye Research). She was honored in 2016 and 2017 as the best "Teacher in the category of Senior Physicians" at the Eye Clinic Basel. Their publications can be accessed via the PubMed database. She is a reviewer and associate editor in numerous scientific journals.PD Dr. Margarita Todorova is a member of the Bulgarian Medical Society (BMG), the Swiss Ophthalmological Society (SOG), the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV), the European Association for Vision and Eye Research (EVER) and the Swiss Assistance Association. and Senior Physicians (VSAO).
