Marc Wein, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He performed his residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (ABIM Research Pathway), followed by a fellowship in Endocrinology at Mass General. His PhD thesis work at Harvard Medical School with Laurie Glimcher was on genetic control of bone formation by osteoblasts, and his postdoctoral fellowship with Hank Kronenberg has focused on novel mechanisms governing the function of the most abundant and least understood cell in bone, the osteocyte.

He is now a K08-funded young investigator and active endocrinologist sub-specializing in osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases. His research focuses on transcriptional control of sclerostin, an osteocyte-specific secreted protein that happens to be a drug target for osteoporosis. He is interested in understanding how osteocytes turn on sclerostin, and how signals that boost bone formation (parathyroid hormone, mechanical loading) regulate its expression.
