Dr. Marc Lombes is the director of the French Insitute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and his research unit is devoted to translational research focusing on endocrine pathophysiology and hormone signaling. Dr. Lombes received his master degree and MD degree at the University of Paris. In 1987, he also received his PhD in endocrinology at the University of Paris. He has been director of different research units within INSERM and published over 110 original publications, with 21 revues and 8 book chapters and has been a frequently invited speaker for many national and international conferences.

His laboratory is mostly interested in the mechanisms of mineralocorticoid receptor (MR), and their aim is to identify and characterize the molecular and cellular mechanisms of MR action by studying both the regulatory elements controlling MR expression and the critical events involved in the tissue-specific action of MR. The ultimate aim is to design new strategies to prevent or cure MR-mediated and -related diseases such as high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, chronic kidney diseases but also mineralocorticoid resistance and disorders of the central nervous system.
