Manuel Lopez-Cano MD, PhD, is a professor of surgery (Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona) and the head of the Abdominal Wall Surgery Unit at Vall dHebron University Hospital in Barcelona (Spain). He has published works on the pathogenesis of hernia and dynamic behavior of the abdominal wall, collaborating with other university centers in the development of 3D models. He has developed projects on the quality of hernia surgery, hernia prevention (parastomal and incisional), and the clinical usefulness of different biomaterials, as well as validation of different materials used for abdominal wall repair.
Currently, M Lopez-Cano is a member of EAES and the secretary of the Abdominal Wall Surgery Section of the Spanish Association of Surgeons (AEC), and a member of the European Hernia Society Board (EHS)- (Secretary of Publications). He is the Past section editor of Hernia journal and associate editor of Cirugia Espanola journal. He has been the organizer and co-organizer of different meetings.
