Manuel D. Gahete has a Bachelor's degree in Biology [2005, Extraordinary Award (UCO) and Special End of Degree Mention (Ministry of Education)] and a Doctor of Science [2010, Extraordinary Award (UCO) and European Mention]. His research career began as a collaborating student of the Department of Cellular Biology, Physiology and Immunology of the University of Córdoba (UCO) in 2001, subsequently obtaining a Research Initiation Grant (2004), a grant from the Endocrine Society (2004) and an FPU Scholarship (2006). The results derived from his Doctoral Thesis (2010) served to be awarded the Andalusian Future Prize (2010; Joly Group). His postdoctoral training was carried out in the Department of Medicine (Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism) of the University of Illinois at Chicago (Postgraduate Scholarship from the Caja Madrid Foundation).

After his return to the UCO/Maimonides Institute for Biomedical Research of Córdoba (IMIBIC) with a “Sara Borrell” contract from the Carlos III Health Institute, he was awarded the prestigious European “Young Investigator Award” (2013, awarded by the European Society of Endocrinology). He subsequently obtained a “Miguel Servet” contract from ISCIII and promotion to Emerging Researcher from IMIBIC for the consolidation of his own line of research. As a result of this, he has been awarded the Young Endocrinologist Award (2019, awarded by the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition) and the Early Investigator Award (2020, awarded by the American Endocrinology Society EndoSociety). He is currently a Full Professor at the UCO and Co-Researcher in charge of Group GC27 “OncObesity and Metabolism” at IMIBIC.

During his scientific career he has made contributions in the form of original and review articles, with a total of 105 publications in journals included in the JCR, of which 14 correspond to articles in 1st decile journals and 71 in 1st quartile journals; and 34 he has signed as the main author (first signatory or corresponding author; h-index: 28). These articles have a cumulative impact factor of 480, with a total of >2200 citations. In addition, he has published 24 book chapters and has participated in more than 250 communications at national and/or international conferences.

In addition, he is part of the editorial committee is a regular reviewer in different scientific journals, and is part of panels of evaluators of several regional, national, and international agencies. He has directed numerous Doctoral Theses and undergraduate/postgraduate studies. He is a member of the Academic Council of the Master (CAM) in Translational Biomedical Research of the UCO and of the Academic Commission of the Doctoral Program (CAPD) in Biomedicine of the UCO, member of the Global Engagement Advisory Board (EndoSociety) and coordinator of the youth committee ENEA researchers (EYRC).
