Dr. Manickam Nicks Kumaravel is based at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas, USA. At UTHealth, he is an Assistant Vice President, Professor of Radiology and Orthopedics, and Chief of the Musculoskeletal section. He also holds a Memorial Hermann Endowed Chair. His clinical training includes a residency in Orthopedics and Trauma with surgical board certifications from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, United Kingdom. He is Specialty board certified in Radiology in the United Kingdom (and European Union) and certified by the American Board of Radiology.

Nicks is also a team doctor with the National Football League (NFL) Texans. He is also involved in caring for the National Basketball Association (NBA) Rockets and the ATP (All Tennis Professional) Tennis tournaments. Nicks is a keen educator interested in radiology education for high school, medical school students, residents, fellows, and practicing radiologists in the United States and as part of international outreach programs. His research interests include traumatic hip injuries, the role of biologics in elite athlete injuries, cartilage imaging, and using UTE (Ultrashort TE) sequences to assess ligament healing.
