Dr. Parast is a perinatal pathologist and placental researcher at the University of California San Diego and the Founder of the Center for Perinatal Discovery. She is a Professor and the Director of the Perinatal Pathology Division of Anatomic Pathology, at UCSD Department of Pathology. Dr. Parast's research interests include understanding the development and function of the placenta and its impacts on both fetal growth and development and maternal health; placental pathology in the setting of preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, and stillbirth. Dr. Parast received her undergraduate degree in Microbiology at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY. Her Ph.D. in Cell Biology and her medical degree were completed at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA. She completed a residency in Anatomic Pathology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and a fellowship in Women's and Perinatal Pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. She also completed post-doctoral training in Placental Biology at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
