Dr. Malek Kamoun is a professor of Clinical Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Kamoun's research interest is to define the extent and nature of HLA haplotype genetic diversity and to understand the biological relevance of amino acid polymorphism in HLA class I and class II molecules. Computational and biostatistical methods are used to evaluate the significance of HLA amino acid polymorphism in clinical transplantation and autoimmunity. Another interest is to better understand the impact of B cell also response and anti-HLA antibodies on allograft outcomes in clinical transplantation including islet cell transplantation. Clinical trials are used to assess the effectiveness of B cell-depleting agents on alloantibody levels and allograft survival in transplant recipients.
