Dr. Malcolm Finlay is a Consultant Electrophysiologist working at Barts Heart Centre, Queen Mary University of London, and UCL. He qualified from Oxford University in Medicine in 2001 and gained his Ph.D. in Cardiac Electrophysiology in 2014 from UCL, for which he held a Wellcome Trust Research Training Fellowship. He specializes in the management of complex arrhythmias, particularly catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation and atrial tachycardia, and also in cardiac pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.
He has a deep interest in the development of new technology and translation. He has invented several medical technologies, including the world’s first online heart simulation for education and training and recently has developed All-Optical Ultrasound, a new imaging technique suitable for minimally invasive procedures in collaboration with engineering at UCL. This novel platform technology allows high-definition ultrasound imaging via optic fibres, which will be commercialised via a spin-out company.
