Maite Teresa Fernandez Figueras PhD

MT Fernández-Figueras is Head of the Surgical Pathology Area from the Department of Pathology at Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya-Quironsalud, and Associate Professor of Pathology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), where she coordinates the teaching of Anatomic Pathology to students of the Biomedical Sciences and Medical Schools. She is also director of the Laboratory Àrea de Diagnòstic Anatomopatològic (ADA), her private practice. She was previously Head of Section at the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol (HUGTP), Barcelona, Spain, and Coordinator of the Histopathology and Electron Microscopy Platform at the HUGTP Health Sciences Research Institute. She obtained her MD and PhD degrees at the UAB Medical School. The subject of her PhD thesis was “Patterns of cytokeratin distribution in cornification diseases and adnexal tumors”. She completed her Residency training in Anatomic Pathology at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (UAB).
MT Fernández-Figueras is the Vice-President of the International Society of Dermatopathology. She has organized and presented at numerous national and international meetings and is the author or co-author of more than 130 publications and several book chapters. She serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Dermatopathology and other medical journals. Her academic/research interests are skin carcinogenesis, HIV-related cutaneous diseases and inflammatory dermatoses.
