Maddalena Macedoni MD

Maddalena Macedoni, MD, is a paediatric diabetologist at the V. Buzzi Children’s Hospital of Milan, Italy. She attended Medical School at the University of Milan. She graduated as MD in 2009 and she specialized in Paediatrics in 2016.
Since she was a medical student and during the residency years, she worked with the dr. Andrea Scaramuzza’s team in the Paediatric Diabetes and Metabolic Disease Department at the L. Sacco Hospital of Milan. During these years she was involved in several clinical research projects on diabetes and nutrition, diabetes and physical activity, diabetes and vaccinations and diabetes and microvascular complications. Most of these studies have already been published on international journals.
She has attended many conferences, also with oral communications and posters, and training diabetes courses. In particular she attended the ISPAD School in Poland 2012, as student and in Milan 2015, as tutor.
In 2015 she won the 2015 ISPAD Fellowship Grant that allowed her to complete the last 9 months of residency at the University Children’s Hospital of Ljubljana (UCHL), working on closed-loop system and physical activity in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes, with the Prof. Battelino’s research group. This study titled “Closed-loop glucose control in young people with type 1 diabetes during and after unannounced physical activity: a randomized controlled crossover trial” was published in 2017 on Diabetologia. During the fellowship experience she was also actively involved in a translational study published in 2018 on Atherosclerosis titled “Metabolic control, ApoE genotypes and dyslipidaemia in children, adolescents and young adults with type 1 diabetes”.
Currently dr. Macedoni is actively involved in translational research and clinical studies in paediatric diabetes and a close cooperation with Prof. Battelino and the Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Disease of the UCHL is still ongoing.
