M. G. Bhat MBBS, MS, FRCS (England), FRCS (Edinburgh), FICS DMLE (Medical Law), DMIRCSEd (Informatics)

Dr. M G Bhat has obtained his MBBS (1972) and MS (1976) from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal and Mangalore - India. He was awarded the Dr.TMAPai Blue Ribbon and Gold Medal for Best Outgoing Student of the College in 1972, for obtaining the highest marks in the Medical career. Trained in England from 1978-83 and obtained the FRCS from England and Edinburgh in 1980. He is in Bangalore from 1987. He initiated laparoscopic surgery in 1992 in Karnataka and is now among the well-known laparoscopic surgeons in the country. He was formerly Head of Department of General Surgery at the Manipal Hospital, Bangalore form 1992 to 2005 and then at Wockhardt Hospital, Bannergatta Rd, from 2006-2010. And was singularly responsible for establishing these departments. He has special interest in Gastrointestinal, laparoscopy and Bariatric surgery

He was the Medical Director for the Manipal Hospital, Bangalore from 2002-2004. He was Medical Director for the Nova Medical Centers from 2009-2015 and helped to establish the Short Stay Ambulatory Surgery concept and the centers across the country. He is well known in scientific and social surgical groups and has held many executive posts in surgical and laparoscopy associations at Local, State, National and International levels. He was the Regional Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has been a postgraduate teacher and examiner for many years and examiner for the MRCS. He well recognized as an excellent surgeon and teacher. And very well liked and appreciated by his colleagues and patients.
He has obtained a Postgraduate diploma on Medical Law and Ethics from the National Law University of India, Bangalore and a Postgraduate diploma in Medical informatics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is amongst the very few doctors with this qualification in the world. He was honored by the Life Time Achievement Award by the Kasturba Medical College during their Diamond Jublee Celebrations in 2003.
