Dr. Lydia van der Geest is a researcher at the Research & Development department at IKNL in the Netherlands. In her research, she focuses on the quality of care for patients with primary liver, bile duct, gallbladder, or pancreatic cancer (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary carcinomas).
After a career as a nurse, a study in work & organizational psychology (RU Leiden, 1994), and a period as a policy researcher with a focus on health care, she joined the regional IKW in 2001, which later merged into IKNL. After completing a master's degree in Epidemiology (VU Amsterdam, 2012), her focus shifted from the entire gastrointestinal tract to specifically HPB tumors. She also obtained her PhD with a dissertation on pancreatic cancer in the elderly (University of Amsterdam, 2019).
