Lydia Hemphill is the Associate Director of Employee Communications at BioMarin Pharmaceutical, Inc. After 15 years of experience in Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, and Technical Operations Strategy, Lydia transitioned to working on what she loves most – anything human-centered. With a passion for people, she believes that employees are much more than “the company’s most valuable asset”, they are the heartbeat of an organization.

At BioMarin, Lydia manages employee communications for Technical Operations, the largest business unit in the company. She leads culture renovation and employee experience efforts, along with co-founding and facilitating BioMarin’s first company-wide community resource group, Catalysts for Change, which focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and anti-racist work. For the 2nd year in a row, Lydia has been recognized as a BioMarin “She-ro” for her leadership and efforts in championing DEI. Lydia is a connector of people and ideas and a trusted confidante of both leaders and employees. She supports the development and implementation of strategy for both operational and people-related initiatives and is a sought-after coach to leaders at all levels on the power of authentic communication.

Lydia earned her Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Biology from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the IE Business School in Madrid, Spain.
