Dr. Luma Muhtadie is a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY 32035) specializing in the treatment of PTSD and complex trauma, affective regulation, and adjustment to life transitions using cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and acceptance-based interventions. She takes a warm, empathic, person-centered approach to therapy, and is deeply committed to providing culturally responsive care to diverse individuals.

Dr. Muhtadie is a Staff Psychologist with the PTSD Clinical Team at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. She has been an adjunct faculty instructor at the California State University, Los Angeles, and in the Smith College School for Social Work’s clinically oriented MSW program.

Dr. Muhtadie earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, where her clinical work and research focused on the role of mind-body connections (i.e., psychophysiology, interoceptive awareness) in stress, mood disorders, and wellness. She later completed a clinical predoctoral internship at the San Francisco VA Medical Center, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the VA Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center with a focus on women’s mental health and trauma recovery.

Dr. Muhtadie is a longtime practitioner of yoga and meditation and traveled to India on multiple occasions to study meditation and co-facilitate workshops integrating Western affective science with Eastern contemplative practices to foster self-awareness, psychological flexibility, compassion, and equanimity. She has co-authored more than a dozen articles in peer-reviewed journals and contributed as an author and editor to books.
